AWAKENED - Motion Graphics Animation Project

"A burnt out teenager wishes to escape her monotonous reality and starts having wonderful dreams, until it turns into a nightmare and she finds something unexpected when she wakes up."

This is one of my school assignments for Motion Graphics. We were tasked to create a 30 second video of our choice as a group. My team members are Therese (Director), Joon-E (Producer), and Jia Rui (Art Director). I was Post Producer for this project. Despite our roles we all had a hand in assisting in different parts of our film.

I came up with the concept of the nightmare creature, which was a sort of wolf spider that is constantly morphing. We did this by changing the frames around as well as changing textures using after effects. I had the intention of making it look unnerving by doing this and the implication it can change its form anytime like in dreams.

We split each person into creating specified different parts. My focus was the dream sequence just before the beast turns its head. I created the background in after effects using effects such as wave warp, sketch lines, vignette and more. Most of the objects in that scene were done with a 3d camera. For the transformation animation I made it in adobe animate, drawing with textured lines using the line tool.

As Post Producer I put all the clips together and communicated the changes for any inconsistencies. I edited in the sound effects and ambience, as well as the whip turn (beast head turn transition into running).

This was fun as I love the concept of dreaming, wolves, and drawing and animating with textured brushes instead of clean ones. The freedom we had for this experimental project was very enjoyable and I am pleased with the result.
